What to know about Rio Vista Park’s new seasonal access fee

Through the access fee, visitors from outside the area will contribute to Rio Vista Park’s increased seasonal upkeep and maintenance needs.

The fee will be required for visitors from outside the area who want to access the park on 36 designated days during the 2026 summer season.

Local area participants can register with the city to receive a Resident River Pass that will be available digitally, as a printed copy or as a reusable wristband.

Wristbands must be requested online and picked up in person at the Parks and Recreation office, located at 401 E. Hopkins St., San Marcos. The city will charge $5 for replacement bands.

Valid forms of eligibility proof include:

• driver’s license or government-issued ID
• current utility statement and a photo ID
• current rental or housing contract and a photo ID
• an SMPL Enhanced Library Card
• current paid parking permit
