New data shows population, median income growing in San Marcos, Kyle and Buda

Over the last five years, the populations within the cities of San Marcos, Buda and Kyle have increased, according to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2022 American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates released Dec. 7.

In a nutshell

The population within San Marcos’ city limits grew from 59,935 to 67,143 from 2017 to 2022—or 12%—according to the American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates. Kyle grew to 48,484 residents and Buda grew to 14,997, according to the data.

• San Marcos’ population increased 12%
• Kyle’s population increased 31.29%
• Buda’s population increased 13.16%

What’s new?

Along with that increase in population, the data shows household median income also increased in all three jurisdictions. Only San Marcos remains below the median household income across Texas.

The median age in all three cities remained almost flat.

There was little change in the demographic makeup of San Marcos and Buda.

The city of Kyle grew to have a majority Hispanic or Latino population.
