Kyle halts construction, renovation work on downtown project at 104 S. Burleson St. indefinitely

The Kyle City Council voted Jan. 17 to end its contract with Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects for work at 104 S. Burleson St., Kyle. Contracts with any other firms involved in this project have also been ended.

The city bought the building in 2022 with the intention of converting it into a three-story building. The main floor was reserved for a restaurant, the second for office space and the third for a rentable public use space.

In December, Mayor Travis Mitchell told Community Impact that the plans for that building had changed due to budgetary constraints. The revised plan for the building remained the same for the first floor, but there would be no additional floors, just an additional loft area.

However, the contracts and all negotiations regarding the building have been effectively ended through City Council action until they can determine how to move forward.

“[The city] will not be charged for any work, and staff will not be asking [the firms] to do any work on the 104 S. Burleson project until we get further direction,” Assistant City Manager Amber Lewis said.

The council will discuss the future of the 104 S. Burleson St. project at its visioning workshop which has been postponed indefinitely until the city hires a new city manager.
