Kyle approves $1.29M road resurfacing contract

The city completed a road study in 2023, rating streets on a scale of 0-100, and received an average score of 82.5, a very positive score, city engineer Leon Barba said. The consultants who completed the study recommended a budget of $2.88 million in maintenance to retain the score.

The City Council advised staff to maintain the score by adhering to the recommended budget for various maintenance, Barba said, including:

• $1 million: resurfacing
• $1.88 million: overlays
• $300,000: additional funding for crack sealing

The background

The City Council approved an Interlocal Purchasing Agreement with the city of Grand Prairie for a joint purchasing program for goods and services, including microsurfacing, in March 2018. Grand Prairie approved a one-year contract with Viking Construction LLC in April 2022.

“At that point in time, we decided to piggyback on their contract,” Barba said. “Since that time, they've renewed their contract, and we continue to piggyback on that contract.”
