A new website was recently launched for Hays County residents, in an effort to improve accessibility, transparency and customer service for users.
The framework
The project was funded after the Hays County Commissioners Court approved funding Nov. 18, following the county’s Information Technology Department's research to identify a new website platform that will meet residents' needs, according to a news release.
The county selected the website provider CivicPlus for its selection of government-focused digital services. The new website offers a mobile-friendly layout, navigation improvements, enhanced accessibility tools and streamlined services.
Precinct 2 Commissioner Michelle Cohen and Judge Ruben Becerra co-sponsored the agenda item in November, according to the release.
"This new website represents a significant investment in how we serve our community," Cohen said in the release. "Behind the scenes, our IT team worked tirelessly to securely migrate critical public data while building a more accessible and user-friendly experience. It has truly been a countywide team effort, all focused on creating a modern digital space our community can be proud of."
A closer look
Alongside an improved desktop website, the new site is also easier to use on smartphones and tablets, according to the release.
The new website also includes features intended to simplify interactions with county officials, including:
- The Notify Me Citizens Communication Subscription allows users to receive notifications via email or text message.
- A reorganized navigation structure with easy-to-use menus helps residents find commonly requested services.
- Online web forms allow users to submit requests and information electronically.
- An integrated Bid Postings portal allows vendors to view Requests for Proposals, receive updates and submit bids online.
"Our goal was to make it easier for residents to find the information they need without having to navigate complicated department pages," Becerra said in the release. "Whether someone is paying taxes, looking for public records, applying for permits or searching for County services, the experience is now much more straightforward."
Looking ahead
County staff plan to continue refining the website content in the future to ensure easy access.
"We're actively updating the website every day," Becerra said in the release. "Launching the site is just the beginning. We'll continue improving the content and functionality to provide the best possible experience for everyone who visits."
