Officials will celebrate the opening of the Post Road bridge over the Blanco River Wednesday with a ribbon cutting starting at 10:30 a.m. The new bridge replaces the bridge that was destroyed during the Memorial Day 2015 floods. "We’re pleased that this newly-replaced bridge will once again allow our first responders and other travelers between Kyle and San Marcos to have an alternative route to I-35," Hays County Commissioner Ray Whisenant said in a news release. A temporary one-lane bridge was built over the road until July, when crews began work on the permanent bridge. The new bridge has two lanes and four-foot shoulders to enhance safety. It was built within its $900,000 budget and completed about one month ahead of schedule, according to the release. Under a partnership program with the Texas Department of Transportation, TxDOT covered the majority of the costs, with Hays County contributing about 10 percent in the form of other road repair projects.
