Candidates Lisa Prewitt, Bill Miller and Juan Miguel Arredondo will be vying for the position. Current representative Amanda Rodriguez will also run in the mayoral race.
The winner of the election will serve until the end of Rodriguez’s unfinished term in November 2027.
Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.

Why are you running for this position?
Growth alone isn’t success. A thriving community is. I’m running because San Marcos deserves leadership that protects the river and aquifer, insists development pays its own way, and spends tax dollars with the same discipline families do. We’re responsible for the long run, not just the next budget cycle.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
Protecting the Edwards Aquifer, our springs, and the San Marcos River. Conserving the working farms and ranchland that recharge it. Making growth pay for itself instead of raising residents’ rates. Expanding transit, bike lanes, and trails. Reining in consultant spending so dollars reach roads, drainage, and public safety.
How will you balance the community's response to data centers and the potential economic benefits following the city's prohibition of that<br>development?
Residents were clear: our water, our neighbors’ land, and our grid are too valuable to zone away. I’ll defend the prohibition. Real economic benefit comes from employers creating permanent jobs without draining our aquifer. Any large water or energy user should cover its own infrastructure costs.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for San Marcos in the next 5 years?
Water. Cost Living. San Marcos is growing fast in a drier climate, and the same springs that draw people here can’t absorb unlimited demand. The challenge is managing growth so it pays its own way, protects recharge land, and leaves the river intact for the next generation.

Why are you running for this position?
I’m running for city council because I feel that the majority of the people currently on council are not in touch with the citizens of San Marcos and what they want or need.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
If elected, my top priorities would be food security, protecting our natural resources, and affordable housing are my top priorities.
How will you balance the community’s response to data centers and the potential economic benefits following the city’s prohibition of that development?
I will never agree with having data centers inside the city of San Marcos. There are too many unknown variables and too many unknown environmental factors. Also, the drain on our city resources would significantly and directly affect our cities citizens.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for San Marcos in the next 5 years?
I feel that over the next 5 years, San Marcos will not be able to keep up with the growth in population. We need to find a way to balance the growth of our populace while still protecting everything that makes our city great.

Why are you running for this position?
I’m running because San Marcos is home, and I believe local government should move with urgency and deliver results. I’ve spent my career serving our community, from our public schools to the Legislature and United Way. I’m ready to bring that experience, energy and new ideas to City Hall.
What would your top priorities be if elected?
My priorities are affordability and stronger neighborhoods. I’ll focus on safe, affordable housing, utility and basic-needs assistance, workforce opportunities and good-paying jobs, while addressing streets, sidewalks, drainage and public safety. I want growth that strengthens our neighborhoods, protects our river and allows working families to build a future here.
How will you balance the community’s response to data centers and the potential economic benefits following the city’s prohibition of that development?
I support the city’s prohibition on data centers. Economic development must provide real community benefit without threatening our water supply, infrastructure or quality of life. I’ll prioritize employers that create good-paying jobs and strengthen our tax base while protecting the natural resources that make San Marcos special.
What do you see as the greatest challenge for San Marcos in the next 5 years?
Our greatest challenge is managing growth without losing what makes San Marcos home. As someone born here who learned to swim in our river, I know how precious it is. We must address affordability, infrastructure and water while protecting our river and ensuring longtime residents can afford to stay here.
