According to unofficial results, early voting totals show incumbent Melisa Medina taking the lead over Miguel A. Zuniga in the Kyle City Council District 2 race.
What we know
Results show Medina with 55.89% and Miguel A. Zuniga with 44.11% of the votes. Medina has received about 2,258 of the 3,934 votes cast during early voting, while Zuniga has received 1,782.
Medina, who comes from a background in dental office management, began a bid for reelection because she believes there is more work to do, she previously told Community Impact in an election Q&A.
Medina told Community Impact she was feeling a little nervous ahead of the election.
“I’d like to say that I feel like I have the votes to get reelected and get back into office so I can finish the work I started, but you can never be that confident because things always happen,” Medina said.
Zuniga has a background in entrepreneurship and real estate development and has previously served on Kyle City Council in District 3, according to previous Community Impact reporting. His campaign priorities include finishing all roads in bonds, hiring a city manager, lowering taxes and reducing unequal spending, he previously told Community Impact in an election Q&A.
Zuniga told Community Impact he was feeling optimistic ahead of the election.
“I think people are just tired of being left behind, being ignored, not having a voice and it’s time that we bring infrastructure, roads and public safety and support our schools over here," Zuniga said. "We don’t want to be the district that always gets less than everybody else. We have to work together and make a better future for everyone and save the next generation which means no to data centers and regulate AI because it’s going to take away a lot of our jobs."
The context
Seats on the dais for Kyle City Council Districts 2 and 4 are both up for election this year, with each serving staggered three-year terms. District 2 of Kyle represents the southern portion of the city limits, follows I-35 and covers southeastern neighborhoods, according to the city of Kyle website and previous Community Impact reporting.
