Hays CISD will host a retirement celebration honoring Jerry Babbitt, the namesake for the HCISD Performing Arts Center Auditorium, on Aug. 17.
The details
Babbitt and his wife, Cheryl, who is also retiring, have served as the Music Region 18 UIL executive secretaries for 50 years.
Babbitt joined HCISD in 1985 as the district's director of bands and music, going on to lead the district with over 15 band UIL sweepstakes. Babbitt retired from band directing in 2002 and was a full-time supervisor for HCISD fine arts until his retirement in 2004.
