Buda City Council took an important step toward beginning the project construction June 16 by approving a $13.9 million construction contract with SpawGlass Contractors Inc.
"Garison Park has been part of Buda’s vision for outdoor recreation since before the bond," Mayor Lee Urbanovsky said in the release. "Construction starting this summer means residents will soon have a place to swim, paddle, walk the creek, and connect with the land right in their own backyard."

Once completed, the park will offer residents direct access to Onion Creek and numerous outdoor amenities.
According to the release, Phase 1 improvements will include:
A swimming hole with water access points
A kayak and canoe launch, with a washing station
Trails made of concrete and decomposed granite trail, connecting to the Onion Creek Trail
A canopy walk and bird blind
An overlook with elevated views of the creek
Restroom facilities, two parking lots and an open pavilion
Restoration of open prairie areas and native landscape

The project is funded through Proposition B and supplemented by Proposition A of the 2021 Buda Bond, $6.9 million from Hays County, and a $750,000 non-urban outdoor grant from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, according to the release.
Construction is expected to take approximately 360 calendar days, with public access to the park being restricted for the duration, according to the release. Garrison Park Road north of downtown will be an active construction zone.
