As construction on the Buda Sportsplex renovation moves forward, city staff pushed forward efforts to market the park as a competitive location in Central Texas for youth and amateur sports tournament organizers.
The City Council approved a rebrand of the facility, and city staff presented the planned strategic marketing and sales initiative at an April 21 meeting.
The big picture
The efforts aim to increase hotel occupancy and generate economic impact in the city by marketing the sportsplex as a highly desired tournament destination for various sports, according to agenda documents. The city will target organizers for baseball, softball, soccer, flag football, lacrosse and multisport events.
Key elements of the marketing strategy include:
- Targeted outreach: Engage with tournament organizations operating within Texas and the Southern United States.
- Sales and marketing materials: Develop a professional sales kit that includes facility specifications, hotel inventory and tournament hosting capabilities.
- Website and digital presence: Create a dedicated web presence to provide clear, actionable information and an efficient inquiry process.
- Incentive program: Establish a tournament partnership package, possibly featuring fee assistance, hotel partnerships and on-site operational support for tournament organizers.
- Industry engagement: Increase visibility through trade shows, networking events and industry associations.
- Content and promotion: Utilize social media, video content and public relations to showcase the facility and highlight events.
As part of the rebrand, the Buda Sportsplex will be renamed to Buda Championship Park in an effort to further cement the location as a preferred destination for organized tournaments, according to agenda documents.
Zooming in
Prior to the Buda Sportsplex’s renovation, the facility had limited promotion of tournament activities due to its narrow capabilities and condition, according to agenda documents. The location did not have the necessary infrastructure and amenities to host large-scale, competitive tournaments.
Phase 1 of the renovation is projected to be completed mid-September, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The improved and expanded facilities will give the city the opportunity to reposition the sportsplex as an ideal spot in the sports tourism industry.
