The city of Buda declared a state of disaster March 15, following Hays County’s joint declaration with the city of San Marcos, as a direct response to contain the coronavirus outbreak.
Mayor George Haehn urged residents not to panic and clarified that the call for a state of disaster was to allow the use of funds and resources from a state and federal level.
“After deliberation, to ensure our city will also have access to Federal and State resources, as mayor, I issued a disaster proclamation for the city of Buda as well. I did so to get ahead of things, be proactive rather than reactive,” Haehn said in a March 15 press release sent by the city.
In addition to the disaster proclamation, the city of Buda has canceled all city-sponsored events through April 12 and suspended all programing from the Buda Public Library through March 28 as precautionary measures.
