Terms and compensation The mayor and council members serve four-year terms and make $1,700 and $1,450 monthly, respectively. Jude Prather and Jane Hughson declined their stipends.

Big decisions made in 2015

Flood recovery City staff and elected officials worked with state and federal agencies as well as nonprofits and volunteers to help in flood recovery and mitigation.

Economic development The city attracted an Amazon.com distribution center and a pipe fabrication company that together are expected to create more than 1,500 jobs.

Managing finances The city continued aggressively paying down its debt in 2015.

Top issues for 2016

Flood recovery The two major floods in 2015 mean the city will be in recovery mode for the next few years, and will continue assessing recovery and mitigation options.

Transitioning emergency response In the next 18 to 24 months the city will move to fire department-based EMS.

Possible bond issuance The city will begin discussing its first bond issuance since 2005. The bond may address facilities, including City Hall, new fire stations and a new police department headquarters.
