The highly anticipated Buc-ee’s location in San Marcos has set a date for its grand opening and is close to welcoming customers to its newest travel center. The store will officially open its doors Aug. 12.
The overview
The 74,707-square-foot travel center broke ground on Jan. 29, 2025. The project had an estimated construction cost of $47 million and was originally slated to open late 2025, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.
During a Feb. 20, 2024, presentation to the San Marcos City Council, Buc-ee’s projected it would create 200 to 225 full-time jobs, according to previous Community Impact reporting. On March 5, 2024, the council approved an incentive agreement with the company, allowing Buc-ee’s to receive a 50% refund on sales tax generated by the company over a 15-year term.
As a condition of the incentive agreement, the travel center must maintain 175 full-time jobs. Buc-ee’s agreed to donate $100,000 to the city’s community fund as well, according to previous Community Impact reporting.

What’s available
The travel center will feature Buc-ee's merchandise and popular food options, including barbecue, fudge, kolaches and Beaver Nuggets, according to previous Community Impact reporting. The location will also have 128 fueling stations.
