Numerous school districts in and around San Antonio say they plan to close campuses and offices all day Jan. 20 as local weather forecasts call for a cold front to bring freezing temperatures, increasing winds and the potential for freezing precipitation.
Additionally, the city of San Antonio and Bexar County will have warming centers open on Jan. 20 for residents who not have heat in their homes or may experience any power outages.
North East and Northside independent school districts announced Jan. 19 that they both will not have facilities open Jan. 20, but that normal operations will resume on Jan. 21. Extracurricular activities scheduled for Jan. 20 are also canceled.
North East ISD officials , in a statement, said the school district continues to cope with staffing shortages and that because one-third of employees live across the North Side, many workers would be hard-pressed to safely travel to work in wintry weather.
