VIA Metro Transit seeks public input on rapid transit system

VIA Metropolitan Transit will hold community meetings to gather feedback on the San Antonio agency’s proposed Rapid Silver Line project.

VIA officials said the Rapid Silver Line, an east-west corridor laid across downtown San Antonio, would improve service for existing riders, attract new riders, reduce congestion, lower greenhouse gas emissions and enhance air quality.

The Rapid Silver Line, specifically, would link existing VIA passenger hubs in central San Antonio between North General McMullen Drive and Frost Bank Center Drive.

VIA officials said the bus pickups and drop-offs will take place every 10 minutes on weekdays and 15 minutes on weekends, during daytime hours, along the Rapid Silver Line. This dedicated line is projected to open in late 2029.

According to VIA representatives, VIA Rapid Silver Line vehicles would travel in dedicated lanes outside regular traffic and take advantage of bus-friendly traffic signals and offer off-board face collection for quicker passenger boarding.

• Jan. 18, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Holy Cross High School, 426 N. San Felipe St., San Antonio
• Jan. 20, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., VIA Metropolitan Transit at The Grand, 123 Medina St., San Antonio
