Southbound frontage road of Loop 1604, I-35 seeing nightly closures

On Aug. 27, full nightly closures of the southbound frontage road near the intersection of Loop 1604 and I-35 began.

These closures are part of the I-35 North East Expansion Central project, which broke ground in 2022.

This 9.5-mile transportation improvement project from I-410 North in Bexar County to FM 3009 in Guadalupe County will have three elevated lanes in both directions, including high-occupancy vehicle lanes, and will incorporate flyovers to I-410 North and Loop 1604 West.

Areas of the frontage road that will be closed during construction from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly include:

• IKEA-RBFCU Parkway to Pat Booker Road
• Eastbound Loop 1604 and southbound I-35
• Southbound I-35 collector ramp at the Loop 1604 interchange

During the closure, drivers should follow detour signs. Construction is expected to continue through Sept. 30.
