Elbel Road construction begins Oct. 4 in Schertz

Construction on Elbel Road begins Oct. 4.

According to the Schertz Engineering Department, this multipart project will extend the stormwater system from Dietz Creek to Westchester Drive and include a mill and overlay for the road surface. Defective segments of curb and gutter will be replaced as well as the addition of a traffic signal at the Westchester intersection.

City Manager Mark Browne said the completion time of the project is around three months, weather permitting. The road is estimated to be the most congested from 8-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Browne also addressed concerns regarding the timing of the project in relation to the beginning of the school year.

“We can’t always predict when our plans will get done and when our construction schedules and those kinds of things, those factors,” Browne said. “We have the money now, and so we felt like it was best to do the project now.”

Discussion has been had with Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City ISD to ensure that bus routes are aware of possible traffic delays.
