City officials to widen Bulverde Road, add shared-use path

San Antonio city officials will reconstruct a portion of Bulverde Road as part of the 2022-27 Bond program.

The overview

According to city documents, the Bulverde Phase II project will construct roadway improvements along Bulverde Road from Green Spring Drive to Redland Road. These include adding sidewalks, curbs, driveway approaches, drainage and bicycle facilities as well as other improvements within available funding. The multi-phase project will also address wear and tear on the roadway and an existing low water crossing.

Proposed improvements include:

• Widen Bulverde Road to a total of 86 feet
• Expand the road into a four-lane roadway
• Add a center turn lane
• Add a 6-foot sidewalk
• Add a 10-foot shared-use path
• Drainage improvements
• Utility adjustments

The project is currently in the design phase. Construction is estimated to begin summer 2025 and be completed fall 2027.
