Schertz City Council approved a $3.23 million contract April 15 with E-Z Bel Construction for street rehabilitation on several roads:
  • St. Andrews
  • Maple Drive
  • Dove Meadows
  • Spicewood
  • Silvertree Boulevard
  • Idlewood
  • Grey Feather
  • White Wing
  • Mourning Dove
Street rehabilitation is expected to take place this summer with the start of the 2024 SPAM Rehabilitation project. The 2024 SPAM Rehabilitation project is for streets in Schertz that were deemed deteriorated beyond just needing resurfacing. Rehabilitation involves removing existing pavement from the surface, cement stabilizing the existing base underneath and placing a new layer of pavement on the surface, agenda documents state.

The cost

The project is being funded from the city's general fund and bonds, according to agenda documents.

Some background

The SPAM rehabilitation follows the 2024 SPAM Resurfacing project that was completed in April. The construction that began in November applies a slurry seal to the surface of over 30 Schertz streets. A slurry seal, according to the city’s capital improvements webpage, is a thick layer of a sand and oil mixture spread on a street surface to preserve the street and increase its Pavement Condition Index score.

What's next?

Street rehabilitation is anticipated to begin in early July and be completed in winter 2025, according to agenda documents.
