Knights Crossing Traffic Signal
A new traffic signal at the intersection of FM 1103 and Knights Crossing was activated April 1. The installation, according to the Texas Department of Transportation, was in response to increasing traffic volume and a need to enhance road safety at the location. The project is part of the Steele Creek Subdivision Public Improvement Agreement approved in July 2022, according to agenda documents from the April 8 Cibolo City Council meeting.

Brite and Weil roads off FM 1103 in Cibolo were closed between March 24-April 4 for culvert installation and road elevation adjustments, according to the city. Crews also removed deteriorating chip seal and applied a 2.6 inch asphalt cap to enhance road durability and eliminate potholes.

From April 2-10, as part of the 2024 SPAM Resurfacing project, various Schertz streets on the northern end of the city were applied with a slurry seal, a thick layer of sand and oil mixture spread on the surface of the street. According to the city’s capital improvements webpage, the project is to preserve streets and increase Pavement Condition Index scores.

Construction to complete street improvements on Lookout Road in Live Oak finished in April after beginning on Jan. 13. According to previous Community Impact reporting, the project is part of a bond approved by Live Oak residents in 2022.

Schertz Parkway
A reconstruction of Lookout Road in Schertz and upsizing of a sanitary sewer main from Doerr Lane to Schertz Parkway will begin this summer, according to the Schertz capital improvements webpage. The city of Selma is providing funding for a third of the cost of a traffic signal on the project.

The Buffalo Valley South Utility Replacement and Rehabilitation project began on March 17, according to the city of Schertz capital improvements webpage. Assistant City Engineer John Nowak told Schertz City Council on April 16 that the area, south of FM 78 and encapsulating streets like Church and 1st Streets, had sewer and water line replacement going on in April. Street rehabilitation was scheduled to follow removing existing asphalt, stabilizing the base underneath, and adding a new asphalt layer on top.

Construction continues on the I-35 NEX Central project, including multiple mainline closures on southbound I-35 from Schertz Parkway to Forum Parkway in Schertz and Selma in April for bridge deck pour and roadway work. According to the California Department of Transportation, a deck pour is concrete deck slab placement for the portion of the remaining deck between stages of bridge construction.
