What happened
The City Council rejected bids after a recommendation from city staff and project architect Josué Burguete with Nuclios Architecture, according to agenda documents. Public Works Director Mark Wagster said that the low bid was higher than their budgeted amount.
According to agenda documents, the lowest bid came from AMG Contractors for $911,138 with an alternate bid of $896,138. An alternate bid is a contract that makes alterations to a base bid’s project detail, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Other bids were received from CGC General Contractors and W.R. Griggs Construction.
Looking ahead
Wagster said staff and Burguete will meet again before putting out a second call for bids.
“We’d like to go back, work with the architect; we think there’s some things that we can do to lower costs for the facility. We only got three bids; we think there’s a lot more interest than that,” Wagster said.
