A new interim commissioner has been appointed in Guadalupe County.

The details

At the Dec. 2 Guadalupe County Commissioners Court meeting, Jim Wolverton was appointed interim commissioner for Precinct 3.

According to a county news release, Wolverton will be stepping in for Michael Carpenter, who stepped down to pursue the county judge position.

Wolverton was Precinct 3’s commissioner for over 20 years before retiring in December 2020. He will serve as interim commissioner through 2026, until the results of the next general election for the position.

According to the Guadalupe County Elections Office, a primary election for the position will be held March 3, followed by a November general election. The county judge has the authority to appoint an interim and fill a vacant seat until a general election, per Texas Local Government Code.

Wolverton helped to manage several facility projects in the county during his time on the court, including the Schertz Service Center, according to the news release.

Quote of note

Judge Kyle Kutscher said Wolverton brings a wealth of experience to the role.

“He has a long history of effectively serving as a county commissioner, representing our county on numerous government boards, committees and special projects. His understanding of the budget and county processes will be most helpful,” Kutscher said in the release.
