The city of Cibolo is about to cross a major milestone in Northeast San Antonio.

The overview

According to city council agenda documents, Cibolo’s 60th anniversary of being an incorporated city is on Oct. 9.

On Oct. 9, 1965, Cibolo residents voted to become an independent township and elected M.O. Grooms as its first mayor, according to agenda documents.

The city was named after the area’s Cibolo Creek, with the word “Cibolo” coming from the Native American word for “buffalo” according to the city’s website.
