The gist
Council member Norma Sanchez-Stephens suggested Cibolo Community Center, as it is distinct from a typical city civic center in size, and leaves room for the city to name a Cibolo Civic Center in the future.
The city initially purchased the space in May 2024, according to agenda documents. In March, city staff presented its plans for the center as a hub for the Cibolo Senior Program and Human Resources department, according to previous Community Impact reporting.
What's next
Bryan Hugghins, the city's executive director of safety and infrastructure said renovations would be completed in early to mid September.
Parks and Recreation Director David Howard came before council to discuss other uses for the center, including non-senior related rentals. Council consensus was that the location should be rented out to the public for revenue generation, with expectation that events like parties should end by 11 p.m.
