In anticipation of freezing temperatures, Bexar County and the city of San Antonio will open cold weather shelters on Jan. 20.

The details

Bexar County will open five shelters from Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. through Jan. 21 at 10 a.m. They are:
  • Lighthouse Christian Temple, 8201 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio
  • VFW Post 7108, 8795 FM 1560, San Antonio
  • St. Padre Pio Catholic Church, 3843 Bulverde Parkway, San Antonio
  • Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1129 Pat Booker Road, Universal City
  • Elmendorf Community Library, 203 Bexar Ave., Elmendorf
San Antonio will operate six overnight resilience hubs, or places where residents can warm up and access basic supplies, power, and Wi-Fi. Those include:
  • Southside Lions Senior Center, 3303 Pecan Valley Drive, San Antonio
  • Normoyle Senior Center, 700 Culberson Ave., San Antonio
  • Northeast Senior Center, 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio
  • Gilbert Garza Community Center, 1450 Mira Vista, San Antonio
  • Miller’s Pond Community Center, 6175 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio
  • Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road, San Antonio
Additionally, more than a dozen city facilities will remain open for extended hours from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Jan. 20, including:

Starting Jan. 20, the National Weather Service anticipates a winter storm that could make travel dangerous. The NWS said the I-35 corridor and eastern areas could see up to 2 inches of ice, along with a snow and sleet mixture. The rest of the Central Texas area could see up to a tenth of an inch of ice.
