The city of Live Oak was presented with Scenic City - Silver Certification on Oct. 10 during the Texas Municipal League’s Annual Conference, according to an Oct. 16 news release.

Live Oak is among 15 cities to earn the certification for the 2024-29 period, according to the release.

The overview

The Scenic City Certification Program is a project of Scenic Texas, Inc., which is a nonprofit organization focused on the preservation and enhancement of the visual environment in Texas.

Cities that apply to the program are evaluated on a point-based system, with certification ranging from being recognized as a Scenic City to a Certified Platinum Scenic City.

According to the program website, the evaluation reviews every applicant’s existing ordinance and code language in the following areas:
  • Streetscape enhancement
  • Parks, trails and open spaces
  • Lighting standards
  • Design integrity
  • Landscaping
  • Sign control
  • Litter and graffiti prohibition
  • Utility and cable line programs
  • Dumpster screening
  • Unique municipal features and special programs
