During the closing moments of the meeting, Gibson announced her resignation due to medical and family reasons.
“It has been my pleasure to serve this great and premiere city of Schertz, Texas,” she said.
Gibson was elected in November 2023 to serve a term ending in 2026. Since Gibson served as Mayor Pro-Tem, the city council is expected to select a new council member for the position during an upcoming meeting.
City staff said the vacancy for City Council Place 4 will be filled by calling for a special election. The dates for this election have not yet been determined.
