On July 19-22, the Non Commissioned Officers Association of the United States of America, or NCOA, will hold its 57th annual conference at the Hilton San Antonio Airport.

Each year, the NCOA recognizes one enlisted member from each of the uniformed service for acts of heroism.

According to Executive Director Joseph Terry, this recognition is made to honor those individuals who have performed a particularly heroic act that resulted in saving a life or preventing a serious injury.

Selectees will receive the NCOA Military Vanguard Award, named in honor and memory of enlisted recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor of their respective service.

The selectees this year includes Petty Officer Justin Osborn, Gunnery Sgt. Cody Mongosa, Master Sgt. Franz Workman, Command Sgt. Maj. Jacob Smith and Seaman Thomas Borden. The Vanguard Award Banquet is set to be held July 22.

Terry said 200 guests are expected to attend the event, including Maj. Gen. Juan Ayala, Director of Military Affairs, who will welcome the delegates at the opening ceremony. Resiliency Speaker Kristen Christy will also be presenting during the conference July 20.

Briefings at the conference are free and open to the public; however, social events require admission to attend. An agenda for the event can be found here. The Hilton San Antonio Airport is located at 611 N.W. Loop 410, San Antonio.
