What’s on the ballot
During the Dec. 20 special election for the Place 7 seat, John Carbon and Robert Sheridan received the most votes out of five candidates and will be on the runoff ballot. Carbon received 172 votes or 27.56% of the vote, while Sheridan received 166 votes or 26.6% of the vote, according to the city's canvassed results.
If no candidate receives a majority of votes, a runoff will be held between the top two candidates, according to the Schertz City Charter.
The Place 7 seat was left vacant after the death of council member Tim Brown in October.
The election process
A resolution calling the runoff for Jan. 31 was unanimously approved by council Jan. 6. City Secretary Sheila Edmondson said early voting will run Jan. 14-25, with no voting on weekends or on Jan. 19 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
Early voting will take place at the Guadalupe County Elections Office in Seguin and the Schertz Civic Center at 1400 Schertz Parkway, according to the resolution.
Voting on election day will take place at the Schertz Annex Building at 1101 Elbel Road from 7 a.m.-7 p.m., according to the resolution. Edmondson said canvassing of the election will happen Feb. 9.
