The Texas Department of Transportation announced a series of highway lane closures as part of its I-35 Northeast Expansion project from July 22-26.

The overview

According to a press release, TxDOT will close lanes on I-35 and I-35 frontage road for roadway work, illumination repairs, bridge demolition work, lane striping, column and cap work and traffic shift work.

I-35 from FM 3009 to FM 1518
  • Three mainlanes, an exit ramp and an entrance ramp of northbound I-35 from Evans Road to Roy Richards Drive will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-24 for pavement, roadway and drainage work.
  • Three mainlanes, an entrance ramp and an exit ramp of southbound I-35 from Roy Richard Drive to Schertz Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21-23 for column and cap work.


I-35 from FM 1518 to Loop 1604
  • The left lane on the northbound I-35 frontage road from Forum Parkway to Forum Access Road will be closed until Aug. 2 for construction work.
  • There will be a full closure of Corporate Drive at the I-35 intersection from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-July 26 for bridge demo, column, and cap work.
  • There will be a full closure of Evans Road and the northbound to southbound turnaround at the I-35 intersection from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-25 for bridge deck work
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 frontage road and exit ramp from Forum Parkway to Olympia Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for cap work.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 frontage road and exit ramp from Forum Parkway to Evans Road from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for cap work
  • There will be a full closure on the northbound I-35 frontage road from Olympia Parkway to Pasatiempo from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21-24 for asphalt paving.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 frontage road and exit ramp from Forum Parkway to Olympia Boulevard from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 21-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • Three mainlanes on northbound I-35 from Forum Access Road to Pasatiempo will be closed from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 21-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • The left lane of northbound I-35 frontage road from Olympia Parkway to Pasatiempo will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 25-28 for drainage crossing.
  • The northbound I-35 mainlanes will be closed from Corporate Drive to Schertz Parkway from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 25-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 frontage road and exit ramp from Forum Parkway to Olympia Parkway from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 25-28 for traffic shift work.
  • There will be a full closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Corporate Drive to Evans Road and Evans Road at the I-35 intersection from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 22-26 for bridge structure work.
  • Three mainlanes on southbound I-35 from Schertz Parkway to Forum Parkway will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for bridge deck pour, traffic shift work and lane striping.
  • There will be a full closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Forum Parkway to Gateway Boulevard for column and cap work.
  • Three mainlanes of southbound I-35 from Forum Parkway to Ferrell Road will be closed from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 22-26 for bridge deck work.
  • Three mainlanes of southbound I-35 from Forum Parkway to McMorris Boulevard will be closed from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for bridge column and cap work.
  • There will be a full closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Retama Parkway to Forum Parkway from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-24 for moving barriers, paving and traffic shift work.
  • There will be a full closure on the southbound I-35 frontage road and exit ramp from Evans Road to Arcadia Drive and the northbound to southbound turnaround of Evans Road at the I-35 intersection for roadway work.
  • There will be a full closure of the southbound I-35 frontage road from Forum Parkway to Gateway Boulevard, the southbound I-35 collector distributor at Loop 1604 interchange and the and IKEA-RBFCU Parkway intersection at Loop 1604 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 22-25 for bridge structure work.
  • There will be a full closure on the southbound I-35 frontage road and entrance ramp from Olympia Parkway to Forum Parkway from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21-23 for paving and bridge deck work.
  • There will be a full closure on the southbound I-35 frontage road from Retama Parkway to Forum Parkway and a full closure of Olympia Parkway at the I-35 intersection from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 21-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • Three mainlanes on southbound I-35 from Schertz Parkway to Forum Parkway will be closed from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 25-28 for barrier movement and paving.


Loop 1604 Interchange
  • There will be a full closure on northbound I-35 collector distributor at Loop 1604 interchange, northbound I-35 frontage road from Pat Booker Road to Loop 1604 interchange and westbound Loop 1604 frontage road at Agora Parkway to I-35 frontage road at Forum Parkway from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 22-26 for traffic switch, barrier and cap work.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 connector ramp at the Loop 1604 interchange from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for drilled shaft work.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 connector ramp at Loop 1604 interchange, northbound I-35 bypass bridge at Pat Booker Road, and westbound Loop 1604 frontage road at Agora Parkway to northbound I-35 frontage road at Forum Parkway from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 22-26 for column, cap and bridge beam work.
  • There will be a full closure on westbound Loop 1604 frontage road to northbound I-35 frontage road, and the northbound I-35 connector ramp from Agora Parkway to Forum Parkway from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21 for column and cap work.
  • There will be a full closure of the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes at I-35 interchange, eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 collector distributors, southbound I-35 ramp at eastbound Loop 1604 mainlanes, northbound I-35 ramp to westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes, northbound I-35 distributor, northbound I-35 frontage road over Pat Booker to Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road, exit ramp and entrance ramp closure at Toepperwein Road from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 21-24 for column cap setting.
  • There will be a full closure on westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes from Pat Booker Road to Gateway Boulevard, westbound Loop 1604 collector distributor at I-35 interchange, northbound I-35 ramp to westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes, and southbound I-35 collector distributor at Loop 1604 interchange from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21-23 for steel girders welding work.
  • There will be a full closure of the westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes from Pat Booker Road to Gateway Boulevard, westbound Loop 1604 collector distributor at I-35 interchange, northbound I-35 ramp to westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes, and southbound I-35 collector distributor at Loop 1604 interchange from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. July 21-24 for bridge deck work.
  • Two mainlanes on the northbound I-35 from Pat Booker Road to Loop 1604 will be closed from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 23-25 for column cap setting.
  • The left shoulder of the westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes from West Byrd Boulevard to Kitty Hawk Road will be closed from midnight-5 a.m. July 23-26 for beam staging.
  • There will be a full closure of the westbound Loop 1604 collector distributor at I-35 interchange and northbound I-35 ramp to westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 23-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound I-35 collector distributor at the Loop 1604 interchange from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 23-26 for bridge beam setting.
  • There will be a full closure of the northbound mainlanes and full closure on northbound collector distributor and the northbound to eastbound direct connector ramp at I-35 from Shin Oak to Loop 1604 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 24-26 for bridge cap work.
  • There will be a full closure on the southbound I-35 frontage road from Arcadia Drive to Olympia Parkway, southbound I-35 entrance ramp at Old Austin Road, westbound I-35 collector distributor, northbound and southbound I-35 ramp to westbound Loop 1604 mainlanes, eastbound Loop 1604 frontage road from IKEA-RBFCU Parkway entrance ramp to IKEA-RBFCU Parkway intersection, and IKEA-RBFCU Parkway intersection at Loop 1604 from 8 p.m.-6 a.m. July 22-26 for column cap work and traffic switch work.
