Contractors handling the Loop 1604 expansion project across North San Antonio will be shifting construction schedules around the I-10 interchange.

What you need to know

Texas Department of Transportation officials on June 25 said, starting the weekend of June 28, work crews will revise I-10/Loop 1604 interchange construction schedules to reduce or even eliminate the need for weekend closures through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

The revised schedule through Labor Day is as follows:
  • All lanes at Loop 1604 and I-10 will be fully open between July 4 and 8, and between Aug. 9-12 and Aug. 30-Sept. 2.
  • Some lanes and ramps will be closed during the weekends of July 19-22, July 26-29 and Aug. 2-5.
  • One highway will be closed in both directions, alongside possible ramp closures, over the weekends of June 28-July 1, July 12-15, Aug. 16-19 and Aug. 23-26.
These nightly closures will take place 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily, weather permitting, TxDOT officials said.

One set of nightly closures, which began June 24, is to continue 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily until June 28:
  • Loop 1604 eastbound main lanes from the Vance Jackson Road exit ramps to the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp
  • I-10 westbound main lane exit ramp to Loop 1604 eastbound main lanes
  • I-10 eastbound cloverleaf exit to Loop 1604 eastbound main lanes
The following segments of the I-10/Loop 1604 interchange will be closed 9 p.m. June 28 to 5 a.m. July 1:
  • I-10 eastbound and westbound main lanes at the Loop 1604 interchange
  • Loop 1604 eastbound main lanes from the Vance Jackson Road exit ramp to the Lockhill Selma Road entrance ramp
  • Loop 1604 eastbound and westbound frontage roads at the I-10 interchange
  • Loop 1604 eastbound exit ramp to I-10 eastbound and the I-10 westbound exit ramp to Loop 1604 eastbound
  • Cloverleaf ramps from I-10 eastbound to Loop 1604 eastbound and Loop 1604 westbound to I-10 eastbound

The outlook

TxDOT officials recently said the overall expansion and improvement of Loop 1604 from Bandera Road/SH 16 to I-35 is more than 50% finished. The first flyover ramp at the new I-10/Loop 1604 interchange is scheduled to open by the end of 2024.

TxDOT representatives said, even with shifting construction closures, motorists traveling on Loop 1604 and I-10 in North San Antonio should be mindful of detours and of the possibility of planned closures ending sooner if work is completed early.
