A major, long-term closure at Blanco Road and Loop 1604 is among the newest developments that are part of the multiyear expansion and improvement of Loop 1604 across North San Antonio.

The gist

Texas Department of Transportation officials on June 4 announced northbound and southbound Blanco Road between Talavera Parkway and West Blanco Road will be closed from 10 p.m.-5 a.m. daily starting June 9 for four to six weeks.

According to TxDOT representatives, the closure will allow CPS Energy crews to relocate gas lines ahead of a planned revamp of the Blanco Road/Loop 1604 intersection.

Travelers looking to access northbound Blanco Road will turn left on westbound Bitters Road then right onto northbound Huebner Road to access the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road back to northbound Blanco.

Travelers looking to access southbound Blanco will turn right on southbound Huebner, then turn left onto Bitters back to Blanco Road.

Travelers looking to access northbound Blanco Road from the cross streets within the closure area will be detoured to head onto southbound Blanco Road and follow the detour on Bitters Road.

In case you missed it

There are other closures taking place across parts of Loop 1604, including the westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 from the Lockhill Selma Road exit ramp to the I-10 interchange. This closure, happening daily 9 p.m.-5 a.m. now through June 8, will allow project contractors to continue work on the new I-10/Loop 1604 interchange.

The following closures affect the immediate I-10/Loop 1604 area from 9 p.m. June 7 to 5 a.m. June 10:
  • I-10 main lanes and at the Loop 1604 interchange
  • I-10 westbound main lanes, left lane only, at the Loop 1604 interchange
  • I-10 eastbound to Loop 1604 eastbound cloverleaf ramp
  • Loop 1604 westbound to I-10 eastbound cloverleaf ramp
Additionally, the westbound Kyle Seale Parkway exit ramp and the westbound entrance ramp from Babcock Road both will be completely closed, beginning at 9 p.m. June 4 through late 2024, TxDOT officials said.

Work crews will, at the same time, open a newly built westbound exit ramp for Hausman Road and open a temporary westbound entry ramp from Babcock Road.
