Workers handling the Loop 1604 expansion and improvement project in North San Antonio will implement a new set of road closures nightly from April 15-20.

The background

Texas Department of Transportation officials said project contractors will close the westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 from the Lockhill Selma Road exit ramp to the I-10 interchange, as well as the westbound main lanes from the Blanco Road exit ramp to the Bitters Road entrance ramp.

Additionally, the Loop 1604/Lockhill Selma intersection will be closed. All of these closures will take place 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily April 15-20.

The context

These new closures follow a set of closures last weekend that included a full shuttering of I-10 through Loop 1604. TxDOT representatives April 15 said project contractors set three steel beams at the I-10/Loop 1604 interchange during the closure that took place April 12-14.

According to TxDOT representatives, efforts to turn the I-10/Loop 1604 junction from a cloverleaf-style interchange into a direct connect interchange are nearly 50% complete, and contractors on schedule to open one of the first flyover ramps later this year.

TxDOT officials also said they will break ground April 16 on Segment 4 of the Loop 1604 project -- a stretch of the freeway between U.S. 281 and Redland Road that will see further widening and other improvements.
