Contractors overseeing the Loop 1604 expansion project in North San Antonio are closing the main westbound and eastbound lanes of the freeway from the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp to the Blanco Road entrance ramp nightly through Feb. 2.

The background

According to Texas Department of Transportation representatives, the partial freeway closure in the Stone Oak area is taking place 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily through Feb. 2, weather permitting.

TxDOT officials said closing the main lanes in this area will allow workers to set barriers and for striping.

Motorists in westbound Loop 1604 main lanes are asked to use the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and continue on the westbound frontage road through the Stone Oak Parkway and Blanco Road intersections, then re-enter the westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 via the entrance ramp west of Blanco Road.

Motorists in eastbound Loop 1604 main lanes are asked to use the Blanco Road exit ramp and continue on the eastbound frontage road through the Blanco Road and Stone Oak Parkway intersections, then re-enter the eastbound main lanes of Loop 1604 via the entrance ramp east of Stone Oak Parkway.

Dig deeper

Additionally, a total closure of Loop 1604 is planned from 9 p.m. Feb. 2 through 5 a.m. Feb. 5 for main westbound lanes from the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp to the Bitters Road entrance ramp, and the eastbound main lanes from the Blanco Road exit ramp to the Stone Oak Parkway entry ramp.

TxDOT officials said the total closure of this part of the freeway is needed to accommodate a traffic switch.

Westbound main lane traffic will use the Stone Oak Parkway exit ramp and continue on the westbound frontage road through the Stone Oak Parkway, Huebner Road and Bitters Road intersections, and then re-enter the westbound main lanes of Loop 1604 via the entry ramp east of Northwest Military Highway.

Eastbound main lane traffic will use the Blanco Road exit ramp and continue on the eastbound frontage road through the Blanco Road and Stone Oak Parkway intersections, then re-enter the eastbound main lanes of Loop 1604 via the entrance ramp east of Stone Oak Parkway.

According to TxDOT, other alternating short- and long-term closures continue to happen along the project route, which currently spans between Bandera Road/Hwy. 16 and Stone Oak Parkway/Voigt Drive.

Project contractors also plan to close Vance Jackson Road overpass at Loop 1604, in both directions, 9 p.m.-5 a.m. daily Feb. 4-10.

TxDOT officials added that closures and detours will continue to take place during an ongoing overhaul of the I-10/Loop 1604 intersection
