Construction crews handling the Loop 1604 expansion project across North San Antonio have imposed a variety of closures this week affecting the area between Shavano Park and I-10.

The background

According to Texas Department of Transportation officials, work crews are closing Vance Jackson Road at the freeway in both directions from 9 p.m.-5 a.m. nightly through Jan. 14.

Weather permitting, closures are necessary for work crews to set overhangs in anticipation of a future direct connector between Loop 1604 and I-10, TxDOT representatives said. The project includes a revised Loop 1604/I-10 intersection.

Motorists traveling westbound on Loop 1604 to go south on Vance Jackson are asked to take the Loop 1604 westbound frontage road, turn around at the I-10 intersection and continue on the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road back to southbound Vance Jackson.

Eastbound motorists on Loop 1604 wanting to head north on Vance Jackson are asked to take the Loop 1604 eastbound frontage road, turn around at the Lockhill Selma Road intersection and proceed on the westbound Loop 1604 frontage road back to northbound Vance Jackson.

Digging deeper

Additionally, work crews will close main westbound Loop 1604 lanes from the Lockhill Selma exit ramp to the I-10 exit ramps between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. daily Jan. 9-11.

TxDOT officials also said project contractors will close the eastbound and westbound main lanes of I-10 through Loop 1604, as well as the eastbound and westbound Loop 1604 main frontage roads at I-10. These full closures, due to bridge construction, will take place 9 p.m. Jan. 12 through 5 a.m. Jan. 15, weather permitting.
