VIA Metropolitan Transit’s board will meet 5 p.m. Dec. 20 at 1021 San Pedro Ave., San Antonio, to receive input on VIA and Federal Transit Administration’s proposal for a North/South Advanced Rapid Transit Corridor Project.

VIA officials said the 12-mile corridor would connect major employment and residential centers from the San Antonio International Airport, along San Pedro Avenue, through downtown and south to the historic missions area on the south side.

VIA said it would cost about $320 million to build the corridor. VIA’s ART project is the only Texas project added to the President Joe Biden’s funding recommendation list for fiscal year 2023 to the tune of $158 million.

Attendees of the Dec. 20 meeting may remark on a proposal to allocate 0.05 acres of Roosevelt Park near the corner of Mission Road and South St. Mary’s Street to accommodate physical improvements related to the envisioned Lone Star Boulevard station.

Additionally, the project would requite 0.046 acres of Roosevelt Park to accommodate a shared-use path as part of the ART corridor.

VIA said if approved, the allocation of land at Roosevelt Park will not adversely affect any existing park features.
