A new intensive care unit has officially opened at the Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant facility in San Antonio.

The new unit opened at the beginning of August, according to a news release from the hospital system.

Officially called the Transplant Intensive Care Unit, it will add 14 new beds and focus on transplant care and recovery.

“This unit will increase access for patients and enhance our ability to deliver advanced, multidisciplinary support to our patients and their families,” Kevin Scoggin, the CEO of Methodist Hospital Specialty and Transplant, said in the news release.


Long story short

Methodist Hospital, a part of the Methodist Healthcare system, first opened in San Antonio in 1963, according to their website.

They’ve grown across the San Antonio area and now have facilities in New Braunfels and the Hill Country.
