Due to the National Weather Service, or NWS, forecasting a severe drop in temperatures this weekend, the City of San Antonio will open six overnight resilience hubs, beginning Saturday, Jan. 24, which will remain open until noon on Monday, Jan. 26.
What you need to know
According to a news release, the hubs will provide necessities, supplies, access to power, device charging capabilities and free wi-fi. Pets are allowed at all shelter locations and kennels will be available in a separate area. Residents arriving at the hubs are advised to bring clothes, supplies and medicine.
VIA Metropolitan Transit will provide free travel fare to and from all resilience hubs via bus service and VIA Link, which is available only within the link service zones, the news release states. To receive fare-free travel, passengers should notify bus operators upon boarding and VIAtrans passengers should alert the reservation agent when booking a VIAtrans trip. Those with disabilities can arrange transportation through 3-1-1.

- Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road, San Antonio
- Garza Community Center, 1450 Mira Vista, San Antonio
- Miller’s Pond Community Center, 6175 Old Pearsall Road, San Antonio
- Normoyle Community Center, 700 Culberson Ave., San Antonio
- Northeast Senior Center, 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive, San Antonio
- Southside Lions Senior Center, 3303 Pecan Valley Drive, San Antonio
Additionally, the city is collaborating with community partners to reach, shelter and share cold-weather alerts. According to the news release, community partners will run four extra overnight shelters.

- Corazón San Antonio, 504 Ave. E, San Antonio
- New Direction Church. 1139 Gembler Road, San Antonio, is open to all, 1802 Guadalupe St., San Antonio, is reserved for females only
During the day, San Antonians can utilize city libraries, community centers and senior centers for warmth during regular business hours.
According to the news release, the San Antonio’s Community Connections Hotline, 210-207-1799, will be operating 24 hours beginning at 8 a.m. Jan. 24 to support San Antonio’s homeless population. Residents are encouraged to call the hotline for themselves or someone in need. The hotline provides up-to-date information on available shelters and connects those in need with resources, including transportation and cold-weather supplies.
