Bexar County is adding a series of improvements to Old Fredericksburg Road in a five-phase project.

The overview

According to county documents, the project includes constructing bridge, roadway and drainage improvements from I-10 access road to Ralph Fair Road as well as the construction of a proposed roundabout.

Improvements include:
  • Five proposed drainage improvement locations
  • A new bridge class structure at a low-water crossing
  • Enhance safety along the Old Fredericksburg Road corridor
  • A new proposed roundabout at Lost Creek Gap
  • Relocating utilities as needed
  • The addition of paved shoulders
  • Sidewalk improvements and multimodal transportation improvements
  • The addition of turn lanes at multiple intersections
Construction began Jan. 13 and is estimated to be completed in May 2027.

The details


The Old Fredericksburg Road project is divided into five phases over a two-year period:
  • Phase 1 involves the construction of a bridge along Woodland Green near the I-10 access road, reconstructing Woodland Green and constructing culverts at the existing roundabout.
  • Phase 2 involves constructing the proposed roundabout at Lost Creek Gap.
  • Phase 3 involves constructing roadway and drainage from just south of Calliope to north of the proposed roundabout.
  • Phase 4 involves constructing roadway and drainage from just south of the existing roundabout to Calliope.
  • Phase 5 involves mill and overlay work at the existing roundabout south of Lost Creek Gap from the existing roundabout to Ralph Fair Road.
Each phase will have a different traffic control plan, and drivers should be alert and cognizant of closures and detours.
