During its Feb. 6 meeting, San Antonio City Council reappointed the board of directors of the SA Energy Acquisition Public Facility Corporation to an additional two-year term.

What you need to know

According to city documents, SA Energy Acquisition Public Facility Corporation was created to finance and acquire electric energy power and fuels to be used by CPS Energy generation plant operations and to ensure service to customers. The newly appointed board will service a term from Feb. 1, 2025-Jan. 31, 2027.

  • Cory Kuchinsky
City staff said Nirenberg will serve on the board until a new mayor has been elected, who will then be appointed to the board by City Council.

The board consists of seven members, consisting of the CPS Energy board of trustees, CPS energy general manager and CEO and the chief financial officer.


The vote to reappoint the board members was unanimous.

According to a city website, the SA Energy Acquisition Public Facility Corporation is a nonprofit, public facility corporation organized under the Texas Public Facility Corporation Act. The corporation was created with the approval of City Council to provide assistance to CPS energy in financing, refinancing and providing public facilities, including interests in natural gas earmarked for public use.
