San Antonio Public Library officials on Aug. 5 announced the start of scheduled building improvement projects, which will lead to a temporary closure of two branch libraries.

The setup

SAPL officials said each project will involve the replacement of heating and cooling systems at Igo Branch Library,13330 Kyle Seale Parkway, and Pan American Branch Library, 1122 W. Pyron Ave.

Because the projects require a short-term closure of both branches, patrons may pick up items via curbside service offered on-site while the locations are closed, according to a news release. Work is expected to be complete at Igo and Pan American this fall.

A closer look

The heating and cooling system replacements are being carried out according to a structural plan for SAPL’s 30 library locations. Recent physical improvements have also been performed at the Brook Hollow, Bazan, Cortez, Great Northwest and Westfall branch libraries.

Curbside service at both Igo and Pan American locations began Aug. 5. SAPL officials said in order to request curbside service, patrons can pull up to the building and call the phone number on the posted sign to have their library holds brought to their vehicle.

Curbside pickup hours are Mon. 4-8 p.m., Tue.-Thu. 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Fri. and Sat. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. No pickups will be allowed Sunday.

Outdoor Wi-Fi will also remain available in designated parking spots at both libraries for patrons seeking online access. The book drops at both libraries will be closed for the duration of the projects.

SAPL representatives also encouraged patrons to find services at existing full-service libraries, such as Cody Branch Library, 11441 Vance Jackson Road, and Mission Branch Library, 3134 Roosevelt Ave.
