District 8 City Council member Manny Pelaez said he and his council aides are hosting the fourth Rising Stars Leadership Program, which he said is designed to equip young leaders with essential skills and knowledge.
According to a news release, this free program offers an opportunity for local high school students to connect with area leaders, participate in interactive workshops, and develop a strategy to guide them through their final years of high school and beyond.
The 2024 program began July 29 with an activity at the Hardberger Park Urban Ecology Center, and continues July 30 at Geekdom and July 31 at Hardberger Park, with an end Aug. 1 at San Antonio Food Bank.

A news release states the four-day event’s curriculum will cover a range of topics, including effective communication, problem-solving, community engagement and civic responsibility.
By participating, students can get a better understanding of how their talents and passions can be used to address critical issues in San Antonio, the release states.
Pelaez said empowering young leaders is important for the future of San Antonio.
“This program not only builds confidence and leadership skills but also fosters a sense of responsibility and belonging,” Pelaez said in a statement. "We want our youth to feel connected to their community and inspired to invest their talents back into San Antonio.”
