San Antonio Animal Care Services is seeking temporary local pet fosters to briefly care for several dogs and cats that will be flown in June to permanent homes out of state.

According to a city news release, SAACS is partnering with the Bissell Pet Foundation to help 100 shelter animals find new homes across the northern United States.

The rescue flight, bound for Buffalo, New York, is scheduled to take place in June. Would-be and current SAACS fosters are urged to fill out the special transport foster form at www.saacs.info/transport, the release said.

SAACS staff will contact interested residents with details including what specific pets are going on the transport and drop-off details for the flight, the release said.

Additionally, the participating animals will be required to undergo a brief veterinary exam at the SAACS campus prior to their flight.

“Residents are urged to sign up today to ensure as many pets as possible can be on the rescue flight—SAACS has a goal of 100 pets to take part in this rescue flight,” the release said.

Residents may also help shelter pets make their flight with items off the SAACS transport Amazon wishlist, which can be found at www.saacs.info/transportwishlist.
