Hollywood Park City Council on April 19 awarded a construction contract for a project designed to extend the rear end of the fire station bay more than 20 feet.

The council also formally clarified the hours of operation at city parks and facilities.

The city is awarding a $299,000 contract to All Pro Construction as the result of a request for proposals conducted by the city.

“We’re really pleased that they were cooperative through this process, and we’re excited to get this project started,” City Secretary Patrick Aten said of All Pro Construction.

City officials said extending the fire station bay will help accommodate a custom-designed 44-foot-long ladder truck that Wisconsin-based company Pierce Manufacturing is building for the fire department.

The new $1.6 million fire truck, which will have a 100-foot ladder, will replace the fire department’s 20-year-old ladder truck, according to local officials.

Aten said the city has also spent $8,500 on architectural and engineering plans for the fire bay extension.

He added that the project should be completed by November in time for delivery of the new fire truck.

The council also authorized the Hollywood Park Economic Development Corp. to provide $125,000 toward the fire bay expansion.

Additionally, the council approved amending the code of ordinances to show that city parks and facilities are open to the public 7 a.m.-10 p.m. daily.

Local officials said this will better enable police to enforce hours of operation at city properties, especially in Voigt Park, which recently has been a source of residents’ complaints concerning noisy, misbehaving after-hours visitors.
