From winter festivals to the renaissance fair, check out these events going on in and around the San Antonio area to kick off December.

New Braunfels

Wassailfest

There will be free wassail tastings, festive lights and light music from local school choirs. Attendees will be able to sample various wassail recipes from different businesses, nonprofits and organizations. Wassail is a traditional German holiday beverage consisting of a warm, spiced apple drink, cranberry juice, orange juice, and other spices and flavors.New Braunfels Renaissance Faire


The annual medieval festival will showcase jesters, kings, queens and other actors. There will also be an artisan market, food vendors and live music.

Gruene Town Lighting and Cowboy Kringle Arrival

Witness the lighting of historic Gruene along with the arrival of Cowboy Kringle and live music.Dachshund Race Finals at Krause’s Cafe

Medals will be awarded to the best-dressed weiner dog and the race winners will receive a trophy. Doors open at 1 p.m., and the races will commence at 2 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring food and supply donations for the Humane Society of the New Braunfels Area.Northeast San Antonio Metrocom

Nighthawk Winterfest


This event hosted by Northeast Lakeview College will have games, food trucks, fireworks and more to kick off the season.Blame the Comic

Catch the routine of a Houston-based comedian as he comes to Selma for a performance. This event is 21 and up only. Ticket holders unable to present a valid ID showing they are at least 21 years old will not be admitted and will not be eligible for a refund.Holidazzle

Classic Christmas

This holiday festival has several winter-themed installations, photos with Santa, food, drinks, music and more.WinterFest

Shavano Park Winter Holiday Event
