As San Antonio continues to work on reducing emissions in municipal buildings, residents in North San Antonio may see some changes in public spaces.

What you need to know

The Brook Hollow Branch of the San Antonio Public Library is set to install a solar panel array, city officials announced in a news release.

The renewable energy project will add covered parking to the facility.

According to the release, it could offset energy costs for the building by up to 80%.

The context

This is a part of San Antonio’s Municipal Solar project, a $30 million undertaking that aims to install solar arrays at 42 municipal buildings and reduce energy costs by 70%, as previously reported by Community Impact.

Brook Hollow is the second library in the city going solar—the Igo Branch had a similar array installed earlier this year, according to the news release.

In the next two years, the city expects to have nine more libraries and 36 total buildings set up with solar panel arrays.

San Antonio partnered with a locally-owned energy business, Big Sun Solar, to complete renovations.
