The School Discovery Network and AIM, a San Antonio-based provider of supportive services and evaluations for special education resources, are hosting a free town hall Sept. 18 for families of students with disabilities to provide educational information about Texas' forthcoming education savings accounts, or ESAs.

According to a news release, the information session will offer a breakdown of the new law. The event will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the Fusion Academy, 227 N. Loop 1604 E., Ste. 100, San Antonio, and is free and open to the public. Registration is encouraged.

Inga Cotton, founder and executive director of SDN, and Bea Fallis, AIM executive director of development and compliance, will provide families with information such as:
  • Eligibility and documentation required to be considered for ESA special education funds
  • How to get evaluated for an individualized educational plan, or IEP
  • The application timeline
  • What the ESA funds cover
According to a news release, students with documented disabilities could qualify for up to $30,000 in ESA funding for the 2026-27 school year. Funding can be used for a variety of services.

Approved services include:
  • Therapies
  • Tutoring
  • Instructional materials
  • Private school tuition
  • Transportation
Additionally, SDN will host a virtual town hall Sept. 25, which will cover general ESA topics, such as which students and families may qualify, what type of expenses will be approved and how the money is distributed.
