To help families navigate hundreds of charter and private school choices, the School Discovery Network, formerly San Antonio Charter Moms, is offering free one-on-one consultations with education experts for parents in the San Antonio region.

The setup

According to a news release, School Discovery Network’s school search consultants will assist parents and caregivers in understanding the local school landscape, and help them find the right fit for their child. Spanish-language consultants are available upon request.

“Our consultations match families with schools that fit their child’s unique needs—taking into account education history, learning style, transportation, and more,” Jaime Mora, School Discovery Network’s director of partnerships and school consultations, said.

The background

Inga Cotton said School Discovery Network offers a multitude of resources to help families navigate the new educational savings account system set to launch for the 2026-27 school year, and the educational ecosystem. The organization’s website offers a non-partisan presentation for the information, with clear and simple explanations of complex educational topics. Cotton said the organization is built around helping parents make informed decisions.

Resources include:
  • A breakdown of different school types
  • School finder map
  • Information about learning models
  • Twice-monthly town halls/information sessions
  • School discovery days
  • School fairs during enrollment season
  • A Facebook group
  • Open house sessions on ESAs

Cotton said the goal of her organization is to help parents give the best possible education to their children as possible.

“We all have to do our best to prepare our kids for the world that we see coming ... that is changing dramatically,” Cotton said. "[So,] let's focus on doing what's best for kids, and let's focus on cooperation, like sharing ideas, and [giving] the parents information, as clear and simple as possible, so they can find a solution that works for their kids.”

Over the next year, School Discovery Network will continue gathering information on ESAs and sharing it with the public.
