The gist
Presented by Esmerelda Munoz, executive director of NEISD Learning Support Services, the course will give students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the industry that’s not widely available to people entering the real estate field.
“Currently 8-10 students who enter real estate, without taking the course, are unsuccessful in the field. This is due to a lack of understanding of the job, its roles and how to navigate the field. The course would fill that gap,” Munoz said.
Munoz also noted that the district’s goal would be for the students to not only pass these classes but have the opportunity to gain realtor certification.
“[NEISD’s] goal is not only to have them go into the field but for them to reach the certification,” Munoz said.
The course will be designed to prepare students for post secondary education opportunities and careers within aligned occupations, and will be the first course of its kind offered in San Antonio.
“[NEISD] would be the first district in this area to offer this pathway,” Munoz said.
The program would offer:
- Coherent course sequences
- Industry-based certifications
- Work-based learning opportunities
Work-based learning opportunities include attending closing deals and learning how to survey properties with industry partners like Keller Williams.
